As we approach the end of the Spring Session, it is important to remember the eligibility requirements for your players. To be eligible to play in the playoffs, players must have 4 matches with your team for the current session. To be eligible for the Blast, players must have 4 matches with your team for the regular session, and 6 lifetime in that format. To be eligible for the City Championships, they must have 4 matches with your team during this regular session and 10 lifetime in that format. This is crunch time to get your players the necessary matches to be eligible to compete in higher level tournaments. Even if your team is struggling in points, the wild card draw puts any team in a position to make the playoffs and we have even had wild card teams make it to the APA World Pool Championships. You improve your chances of doing so by making sure all of your team members meet the minimum match requirements to participate in these events.
Make up matches also need to be finished up this week, as we do not allow make ups within the last 2 weeks of a session.
The tournament schedule is as follows;

We did a fundraiser for the Junior program at the Locker Room to raise money for hotel and travel costs for the juniors that qualify for the Junior National Championships in Davenport, Iowa in July. The fundraiser served up a yummy nacho bar and a tournament for anyone that wanted to play, junior or otherwise. The fundraiser raised $659! We sincerely thank Janette and Armando Lizarraga for organizing and running the event. We also thank Sheila Salonius, Tracy DeRango, Kai Fellows, Mike Morin and Coach for their contributions to the junior program. Dave Whitsell, Brandon Gramse and Kathleen Argerake all made donations and we can’t thank them enough for their contributions. Thanks to those that sent contributions through their team packets and also to everyone that participated in the tournament. We had 44 participants. Alex Aghala took first place in the tournament. Finishing in 2nd place and also winning a nice trophy was junior player Madison Hawk.
We had 1’s and we had 9’s and everything in between competing in the tournament, and it was a lot of fun watching the adults competing against the juniors. The juniors won a lot more matches than you might think. And it was priceless to see the pride show up on their faces after beating one of the adults. We need to do more of these in the future.
We currently have 2 slots for this year’s Junior Nationals. It’s possible, we could send more if they offer us another slot or two. The next fundraiser will be at the VFW in Chula Vista. It will be a spaghetti dinner with live entertainment and a 50/50 raffle. The address is 299 “I” (eye) Street in Chula Vista. The date is currently set for May 21. More details to come soon. Organizer is Janette Lizarraga.
