Captain’s Log, August 2nd, 2015

This is the final week of the Summer Session. Playoffs begin next week. There will be a week break between playoff weeks because of the APA National Team Championships in Las Vegas. This year the APA NTC’s take place at the Westgate Resort. Check out www.poolplayers.com  for information regarding dates and times. The event program is posted online now, also. Westgate is really excited to have us and we are looking forward to it as well. Our best wishes for all of the San Diego teams that are participating this year.

The Locker Room is now officially open. League play will not begin until the start of the Fall Session, however. There are 14 bar tables and one 9 foot table at Locker Room, so stop by and check it out. The address is 5610 Kearny Mesa Rd. We thank everyone for their incredible patience while we were finding temporary homes for everyone and for the lengthy drives you weren’t expecting. With the Locker Room available and nearly a month before the new session starts, it would be a great time for some qualifier board days if anyone would like to offer to run them.

The APA Masters ChampionshipOur Masters Division starts back up this coming weekend, August 8th. Masters is our one division that isn’t handicapped. We play a combination of 8 Ball and 9 Ball in races to 7 using APA rules for 8 Ball and a variation of Texas Express rules for 9 Ball. Each game you win in the race to 7 is a point for your team. 3 players play in match. Test your skills with the best players in San Diego County by forming or joining a team today. We had 16 teams last session and it was a lot of fun. Fees are $30 a team per match. We do a relaxed schedule, which means we play about twice a month.

With playoffs starting next week, it is extremely important to have all of your paperwork sent in the day following your league match. To be eligible for the wild card draw, your team must be caught up in league fees, and no more than 5 no show forfeits as a team for the session. Below are the dates we will be conducting the wild card draw for each night of league play:

Sunday and Monday Divisions: Thursday, August 6

Tuesday Divisions: Friday, August 7

Wednesday and Thursday Divisions: Monday, August 10

The Fall Session begins the week of August 30th. We are now taking signups for teams for the Fall Session. Any teams that stated that they wanted to move to the Locker Room for this last session should now contact us to confirm that you still wish to play out of the Locker Room. Those teams that originally stated they wanted to move to the Locker Room, but are now happy at your current location should also contact us to let us know. Basically, we want to get confirmation on where everyone wants to play next session.

If the message “Is your team playing next session Yes or No” is still printing on your score sheet, it’s because we have not yet been informed of your team’s intentions for the Fall Session. Please make a note in the message center letting us know your team’s intentions for the Fall. We hope to see you all back next session.

The Blast is scheduled for October 10-11 at the Locker Room. 9 Ball Southwest Challenge is Oct. 15-18.

We cannot start calculating the MVP winners until all divisions are processed, which is Monday August 17th. Results should start showing up on Wednesday or Thursday, but not before that since we will be in Las Vegas for the APA National Team Championships.

The Junior Academy starts back up on August 29th with an Awards Ceremony and Fall session Kick Off Party and Orientation. Classes will begin on September 12th. See our web site for more information. Congratulations to APA Junior Championship participants Miguel Reyes and Kristina Gonzales for finishing 33rd in their respective skill level tiers this year. We are very proud of their sportsmanship and their play.

Good luck to the teams that make it to the playoffs. For those that don’t, we hope to see you all next session.
