Ladies Captain’s Log, May 6th, 2016

This is the final week of the Spring Session. The next two weeks will be the Spring Session playoffs. We will draw the wild cards and post the playoff matchups on Wednesday, so make sure you mail in your sheets Friday night or Saturday morning. The City Championships will take place on June 17th and 18th. June 17th will be the first round. We will then do semifinals and finals on Saturday June 18th. That day is the semifinals and finals of the 8 Ball and 9 Ball events, also. First rounds of the 8 ball open divisions is June 10-12 and first rounds of the 9 Ball open divisions is June 4-5. We have three busy weekends of City Championships planned, and all are scheduled to take place at the Locker Room Sports Café.

The APA Ladies 8-Ball ChampionshipThe San Diego APA has been awarded 5 slots for the Ladies 8 Ball Championships in Las Vegas this coming August during the APA World Pool Championships, and we are very excited to have this many teams be able to attend this event. We will be drawing City Championship teams onto two separate boards. The winner of each board will receive one of those slots. These two slots will receive room accommodations at Westgate along with travel assistance paid for by the SDAPA. The next 2 slots will be offered to the 2nd place finishing teams at City Championships. If a team accepts the offer, they will be responsible for paying the entry fee ($200) and their own travel and hotel accommodations. If both teams accept, we will award the 3rd slot to 1 of the 4 semifinal teams that did not advance to the finals based on a blind draw. We will draw 1st, 2nd and 3rd alternates for these slots in case a team rejects the slot. If one of the 2nd place teams does not want a slot, we will award it based on the order of the alternates as well. If we still have a slot available after the first alternates, we will then offer them based on a blind draw of the first round teams that got knocked out of the City Championships.

We do require each City Championship team to use their Spring roster for the City Championships, and those players are all required to have a minimum of 4 matches with the team in the Spring and 10 lifetime 8 Ball matches, we do not require teams that earn the slot to Nationals to keep that same roster for the National event. It makes sense to take your roster that won, but you are welcome to replace players if someone can’t go or your handicaps put your team in a tough position to be competitive at Nationals. Replacement players need a minimum of 20 8 Ball scores and must be active on an 8 Ball team. The reason APA allows this is because the Ladies Championships are now listed as a Preregistered event rather than a National qualifying event. Preregistered teams can be teams that competed and earned the slots like our SDAPA teams will have done, or were passed down to teams that maybe didn’t earn a spot, like some of our teams that get slots 3-5, or some teams can just be formed by the LO without any Ladies division leagues or tournament. Slots are awarded first and foremost to areas that have ladies divisions, which is why they have given us 5 slots. LO’s who get slots without ladies leagues is because they had extra slots to fill the board to offer to other LO’s. Those LO’s will be encouraged to start ladies leagues going forward.

Team trophies for the Spring Session will be available on the weekend of City Championships. MVP and patches will be available at Blast and any City Championship weekend.

We are starting up the Summer/Fall Session on June 24th. If you haven’t registered your team yet for the Summer/Fall Session, please let us know your intentions as soon as possible.

We will be sending out a playoff newsletter that explains any rule changes during playoffs with the score sheets next week. Thanks for your participation in the Ladies division. We wish you all the best of luck in the City Championships! For those that don’t make it, we hope to see you playing the Summer/Fall Session!
