Captain’s Log, July 5th, 2015

Hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July weekend. We have some important things to discuss this week, so make sure you read through everything this week!

On July 23rd APA will be migrating their software to a Cloud. In order for them to do this full migration, they have to take everything offline. That means the program that runs the APA software for scoring matches and calculating skill levels, our web site and Online Member Services will all be down during this time. Contingencies are in place in the event it takes longer than expected. While you will not be able to access stats during this time, regular paperwork flow mailing and receiving should not be interrupted. Please be prepared to stay informed with your teammates by printing off a copy of the schedule before July 23rd. The league office will do everything possible to help make this transition as smooth as possible for our league members. We thank you for your patience and understanding while APA does this much needed migration. Thanks!

The postage on our meters went up with the most recent update. We now pay $0.48.5 per envelope for metered mail. If you have any $0.48 envelopes, you can still use them and add a penny stamp to the postage or gamble that it gets to us. We do not recommend gambling on sending us your envelope. If it gets returned for postage, it won’t get here in time.

Speaking of postage, we have spoken with higher up personnel at the post office and they have informed us that they may be going back to a third shift at the main plants, which would allow mail to be delivered once again in a more timely manner. Meanwhile, it has seemed to become more stable in getting to its destination in 2 days. 1 day delivery has not happened for us in a very long time, so you absolutely MUST mail your sheet the night of or the day following your league match. If it is the day following your league match, it must be at the post office or in a blue box before the last pick up times that day. If it says pick up is 4:30 and you place it in the box at 5pm, it’s probably going to sit in that box overnight and not get picked up until the posted pick up times the following day. We are still looking at ways to accept credit card payments, but if we do get something going with that, it probably won’t begin before next session.

Progress is being made on the construction work at the future home of theLocker Room Sports Café’. The target date to open is July 24th

As we get closer to the end of the session, I’d like to remind everyone that a player needs a minimum of 4 matches with the team for the session to be eligible for playoffs. A player needs a minimum of 4 matches with the team for the session and at least 6 lifetime matches in the format you are competing in to be eligible for the Blast

The APA Masters ChampionshipThe Masters Division just finished up their 30 week session, and the 15 team division was extremely competitive. The Hurricanes (Captain Paul Langley, Tony Witty, John “LJ” Pasquarella and Clint Palaci)took first place and won $2000 and entry into the Masters Championships in Las Vegas in August. 2nd place wasn’t determined until the final week of the session, and Five Points #8 was the team that rose to the occasion and locked up the other Las Vegas Masters Championship entry along with $1200. Five Points #11 is Captain Paul Caputo, Samuel Scroggin, Salvador Laguna and Jimmy Langston. The next Masters Division starts the week of August 8th. Put your team in today. There is only one session per year, so don’t miss out.

The 9 Ball score sheets have an added column on the right side for the running total of the match. We have noticed that some of you have not figured this out yet. There is now a box for the score of the match, a box for the team score for that match and then another box that allows you to calculate how many points each team has earned after each match. Many teams were already doing this same thing on the edge of the sheet, so APA created room for you to do that calculation in an actual box. J
