Captain’s Log, May 10th, 2015

Welcome to the Summer Session! It’s the start of a new APA calendar year where teams will be trying to qualify to compete in the 2016 APA National Team Championships. We have important Blast information to announce:

The Locker Room Sports Café is where we originally announced The Blast would take place, but they won’t be ready yet. We have Saturday 8 Ball rounds scheduled at the Break Room and the Library, and we have Sunday 8 Ball rounds scheduled at the Library. We have 9 Ball rounds scheduled on Sunday at the Library and Sunday at On Cue. Please see the Blast match schedule posted on our web site for dates, times and locations for your matches. Each Division winning and playoff winning team will receive a prize money check in the amount of $1000.00 End of session prize money checks are being mailed out this week ONLY FOR TEAMS COMPETING IN THE BLAST. If your team won the division standings or playoffs and will not be competing in the Blast, yours will be mailed out the week of City Championships in the format in which your team competes. Your trophies will also be available on the week your team plays either in Blast or City Championships. We will also provide patches in your team trophy box. As soon as the last Blast matches complete, we will conduct the City Championship draw. The draw will take place at On Cue Billiards in La Mesa at approximately 3pm. This will be taking place during the SDAPA Junior City Championships at On Cue Billiards. Patches and MVP’s for teams not competing in the Blast will be available only at the Library on Saturday and Sunday. Only those teams competing at Break Room or On Cue will receive their patches and MVP’s at that venue.

The 9 Ball City Championships are scheduled for May 30-31.  The Ladies City Championships take place May 29 and May 31. The 8 Ball City Championships take place June 6-7. We will be qualifying four 9 Ball teams for Nationals, five 8 Ball teams and up to 6 Ladies teams. MVP trophies, team trophies and plaquesteam patches will be available at Blast and City Championships. The plan is to play all 3 City Championship events at The Locker Room Sports Café. We will announce the address on the web site and in our newsletter as we get closer to the events, but the owners have asked that we do not publish this info until they are closer to being ready. City Championship t-shirts will be available for purchase only during the City Championships. Dave Whitsell will be doing cue repair only at the City Championship events.

We will continue mailing score sheets back and forth for the time being, but we will soon be making a switch to electronic in the near future. We just need to get past these tournament weekends, which is our main focus at this time. We have provided applications for any new team members. Please have them fill this out and mail it in as soon as possible. If you do not have any new members, please share the applications with a team that might need extras, or keep them for future use. New members have 4 weeks to get paid up in membership. They will be dropped in week 5 if we haven’t received their membership fees. New members can submit their membership fees through the team envelope or online through the APA web site (www.poolplayers.com).

Schedules do change quite often in the first few weeks, so keep a close eye on the web site for possible changes to the schedule. Your team will play where your score sheet says you play unless we call you. As mentioned before, the Locker Room Sports Café is not ready to open for the beginning of the session, so you will either be scheduled on the road in the first few weeks in travel divisions or you will be required to do make up matches for the first few weeks if you play in an in house division. If you wish to avoid make ups, please contact the league office to get a contact number for your opponent to choose a neutral place to play.

MVP’s and Perfect Session winners for the Spring Session are now posted on the web site. Please check out the list and help these players get their awards. It’s a proud time in their life to have been the best in their skill level tier, and it’s always sad to see how many of these awards don’t get picked up at our tournaments each session. They must be picked up no later than 1 year from the time they earn them.

If your team has a bye and we mailed you the sheet, please mail it back to us so that we know to score your match as a bye. If your sheet isn’t here, we won’t know that it still needs to be scored. Thanks!
