The Blast is scheduled for the weekend of May 16-17, 8 Ball Saturday and 9 Ball Sunday. The 9 Ball and Ladies 8 Ball City Championships take place the weekend of May 29-31, and the 8 Ball City Championships take place the weekend of June 6-7. We will conduct the City Championship draw immediately following the Blast tournament. This year we will be qualifying five 8 Ball teams, four 9 Ball teams and as many as 6 Ladies 8 Ball teams for the National Team Championships in August.
So we have dates, what about a location? The Blast tournament and City Championship events will be taking place at The Locker Room Sports Café in Kearny Mesa. This location is not open yet, but their plan is to be up and running on May 10th. That’s very close to the dates of our events, but they really want these tournaments for the exposure and they want to be able to host leagues immediately, which is the same week that the new session starts up. We cannot give out the address of this new location as of yet, mainly because they cannot afford the distractions of nonstop visitors stopping by and slowing their progress. They will have 12 bar tables in a brand new location that is easily accessible and will have plenty of parking. There will be a smoking lounge, kitchen, beer and wine (to start) and Dave Whitsell will have his shop on the premises.
MVP winners will not be declared before all regular session play has completely finished, so please do not call until we have posted the winners.
Starting with the Summer Session, we will be offering electronic payments. We have lost almost all faith in trusting the US Postal Service to meet our weekly needs, so the time is now to start moving away from using their services. We will be mailing the first week score sheets to you as usual for this new session. Starting in week 2, we’d like to be fully operational on the electronic side of things. We will provide a detailed brochure with the first week score sheet with all of the options we will be providing. Please note that we are not making this change to inconvenience anyone on purpose. Many teams are not receiving their score sheets on time anymore, and we aren’t getting them on time consistently enough to continue with the USPS. If the post office was still providing the service they did a year ago, we wouldn’t even be considering this change. There are teams that are unhappy with our current situation, and the only way to really remedy that is to offer these extra options going forward.
The Summer Session starts on the week of May 10. If you haven’t yet informed us of your team’s intentions for the Summer, please let us know as soon as possible. We are also accepting new team registrations. You can contact the league office by phone, email or register a team through our web site.
The Junior program will qualify at least one player to compete in the Junior Nationals, in Iowa, in July. Our local Junior Championships will take place the weekend of the Blast. We are attempting to raise funds to send a second Junior to the National Championships. They need airfare and lodging and we need to raise another $800.00. We already have $800.00 for the first Junior, but please consider including a few extra dollars in your envelope this week to help us send a second Junior to compete in the event.
