There are only 3 weeks of play left for Sunday divisions since they get next week off for Easter. Teams cannot add players to their roster when we are less than 4 weeks of play left. All Monday-Thursday divisions have 4 weeks left, and the same rules apply once there are less than 4 weeks left in the session.
If you have makeup matches outstanding, now is the time to get those done. We do not allow makeups within the last two weeks without League Operator approval, and we typically frown on that unless there is a really good reason for it.
Congratulations to the following players that will be representing the San Diego APA in the APA National Singles Championships at the end of next month at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas: Pete Gonzalez (skill level 6 in 9 Ball), Rory Mezzanatto (skill level 4 in 8 Ball), George Argerake (skill level 4 in 8 Ball), Rolando Roxas (skill level 6 in 8 Ball), Nayan Tamrakar (skill level 7 in 8 Ball), Paul Langley (skill level 7 in 8 Ball) and John “LJ” Pasquarella (skill level 7 in 8 Ball). These players will be competing against Regional Champions from all over the country in skill level tiers with thousands upon thousands of dollars available to be won in each of those tiers. First place in each of the skill level tiers in 9 ball is $10,000 and first place in each of the skill level tiers in 8 Ball is $15,000. This event will be the last APA event at the Riviera Hotel. Check out the tournament pages on the APA National web site www.poolplayers.com for more information about the National Singles Championships.
As we near the end of the session, I’d like to remind everyone of the changes to our qualification for the MVP program. The skill level tiers are still the same, with one MVP winner in each skill level tier, although there can be ties. To be eligible for the MVP, you must have played in 51% of the matches your team was scheduled to play, excluding bye weeks. To be MVP, you must have the highest PA (Points Available) average in your skill level tier. The skill level tier you will be calculated into will be determined by your skill level at the very end of the session, not including playoffs. End of session does not mean the skill level that printed on the score sheet in that very last week, but your skill level after the last week’s matches have been scored, and for all of the teams you play on, not just that night. So, if you were a skill level 5 on your Monday 8 Ball team and you played as a 5 and you were still a 5 after the Monday match was scored, but you played with your Thursday team and that match put you up to a 6, you will be calculated in the 6-7 bracket for MVP. This is different than what we used to do, so make sure you read this paragraph again if you are confused. We have also published how we calculate the MVP on our web site and in our bylaws at sandiego.apaleagues.com. Select “Awards & Milestones from the left menu. The MVP winners will be listed on the MVP page on our web site.
The message, “Is your team playing next session yes/no” should be printing on your score sheets at this time. This is the message that helps us start getting ready for the next session, and we need to know what your team’s plans are. By saying yes, we can include your team into the schedules we start building for the next session. By saying no, we can remove that message as well, and we will not include your team in the upcoming schedule. If you are changing nights or formats or host location, we will need to know that also. Please discuss your team’s plans for next session andlet us know as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support in what we believe is the best pool league in the world! At the end of this session, we will be qualifying teams to compete in the 2015 APA National Team Championships. Maybe this will be your team’s lucky year!
