Ladies Captain’s Log, October 24th, 2014

This is the final week of the Summer/Fall Session. The playoffs are scheduled to take place November 7th (week 1) and November 14th (for teams that advance to week 2). Fees for playoffs are $24.00 per team for each week of playoffs. The standings winners in each of our 3 Ladies divisions will each advance directly to the City Championships, which will be held on the last weekend in May of 2015. The playoffs will be 2nd place hosting the Wild Card team and 3rd place hosting 4th place. The top seeded remaining team will host the second week of playoffs to determine the playoff championship. The wild card team will be randomly drawn from among the teams with no more than 5 forfeits for the session and that are not past due in league fees. The wild card draw will take place on Wednesday, October 29th. The MVP’s will be calculated soon after that. All Friday Ladies divisions will begin the Spring Session on December 5th. If you miss the playoffs, enjoy your time off and we hope to see you for the Spring Session.

The fees will increase for the Spring Session from $24.00 to $30.00 per team. This increase will generate more prize money and more money for travel for teams that qualify for Nationals.

Many of you are very aware of the eligibility requirements for the Open and 9 Ball teams for City Championships. Now that Ladies is a preregistered entry tournament, we no longer have the same eligibility requirements we used to have in place for Ladies divisions. You do still have to earn eligibility by winning the standings or playoffs. To stay eligible, you must retain at least 2 players from the team that originally became qualified. The players on the Spring roster will be the players that compete in the City Championship. Those players on the Spring roster need to have a minimum of 4 matches played with the team in the Spring and 10 lifetime matches played in the 8 Ball format. All members must renew their memberships by the end of January, 2015 to stay on the Ladies roster. Teams that become qualified are allowed to split the qualification to 2 different teams, and at least 2 players from the originally qualified team must be listed on each team, but no players are allowed to be listed on more than 1 of the split teams. For example:

Marcia, Jan, Cindy and Alice finish in first place in the Fall Session standings of their division. Marcia and Alice want to branch off from Jan and Cindy, creating two teams from the originally qualified team. Each team adds different players to their roster to create two teams of 4 players, and now both will be eligible to compete in the City Championships with their new members, provided they meet all of the necessary eligibility requirements. An example of what can’t happen is Marcia forms a team with Alice while Jan and Cindy keep their team and Marcia elects to not only play on this new team with Alice, but also stay on Jan and Cindy’s team, giving her eligibility on two different teams even though only one qualification was given out. In this example, Marcia would not be allowed to be listed on Jan and Cindy’s roster if she formed this new team with Alice to split the qualification.

In the playoffs, two timeouts are still allowed for skill level 3’s or lower. Also, once a team has reached 5 team points, the match is over. If neither team reaches 5 points, the team that has the most points after 3 matches will be the winner. The match does not need to continue once a team is mathematically eliminated from any chance of winning. If a match is not completed, please write DNF in large letters across the inning boxes so that the league office is aware that it was not a completed match.

We are now taking sign ups for new teams for the Spring Session. If you have not registered your team yet, please let us know your intentions soon. Also, if you know of anyone wanting to form a team, please have them call the league office so that we can get them into the schedule. We will be continuing the relaxed schedule as normal for the Spring Session. Thanks for playing with us and good luck if you make it to the playoffs!
