As was mentioned early in each of the Captains Meetings held in various locations around San Diego County last month, the San Diego APA league fees are now $50.00 per team starting with this first week of the Fall Session for all Open 8 Ball and 9 Ball Divisions. For those that didn’t make it to the meetings, the increase is a necessary evil as our business expenses have really jumped quite a bit since the last time we raised fees more than 8 years ago. The increase will also benefit the players going forward, just as the previous increase did. Over the last 3 years, the SDAPA has paid out more than $1,000,000.00 in prize money. You are all a part of something really big and our goal is to make it even bigger going forward!
The MVP results are posted for the Summer Session. If you thought you should have been MVP in your division and you aren’t listed, please give us a call so that we can double check to make sure we didn’t make any mistakes while adjusting to the new way of calculating the results.
When we published the new bylaws, we required players to play in at least 66% of the available matches to be eligible for the MVP. After one session, we have determined that 66% is too high. With the start of this Fall Session, we have amended the requirement to 51% or more of the scheduled matches to be eligible for MVP and have eliminated the requirement to play in the last two weeks. Because this 15% decrease in the amount of matches to be eligible is now in place, a lot more players will become eligible, meaning that sitting out the final week or so could result in someone losing out on MVP. We will provide an addendum for your bylaws when we get the final details ironed out, but that’s the direction we are going with this.
The San Diego teams are back from the National Team Championships and when we ran into them, they all seemed to be enjoying themselves quite a bit. “Tipsy Q’s” in the Ladies Championships finished in 9th place ($400) out of 132 teams. “She Devils” finished in 17th place ($200). In the Masters Division, “Quality Billiards finished in 9th place and won $575. “The Minutemen” and “3 Mexicanos Y Un Gringo” finished in 97th. In the Jack n Jill Doubles event, “Just Got Lucky” finished in 129th place. In the 9 Ball Open event, “The Next Level” and “Molly’s Rejects” finished in 129th place. “It’s Nine Of Ur Business” finished in 257th place and “Phil. 4:13 finished in 358th place, and each team won $350. In the Open 8 Ball division, “Break And Run”, “The Nicks” and “Uno Mas” all finished in 129th place and won $1000 each. “Lucky 8” finished in 385th place and won $350 and Five Points finished in 513th place and won $350. Congratulations to all these teams for making it to the “Big Show!” We hope you all enjoyed the experience!
We have provided applications for your new members to fill out. The sooner you get these turned in the better so that everyone receives their membership packets in a timely manner. If your team members are paying their memberships online, please inform them to pay as an existing member if their name is already printing on the score sheet with a player number. The only people that should be signing up as new are people that haven’t yet been issued a player number. Once we put someone on a team, they are considered an existing player with a membership number even if they haven’t paid yet, as opposed to a new player who has not had a membership number assigned to them yet.
