An asterisk next to a player’s name on the roster means we do not have all of their information on file. Missing info could be an address, phone number, email or birth date. Please verify the spelling of your player’s name when adding them to a roster, also. We want the membership card they receive to have the correct spelling of their name. We sent out applications in the first week packets and they are also available online. Players can also go to our web site and sign up through online services and pay membership fees with a credit card. Be sure you share this information with your new players. We want all of our members to be able to share in all of the benefits APA has to offer. We received a recent call from one of our members that saved a tremendous amount of money on a car rental with their APA membership card. The APA National web site is www.poolplayers.com and there is a page dedicated entirely to National Merchant Discounts exclusive to APA members. We have the discounts posted on our web site, also. Be sure to ask about APA discounts at our local billiard supply stores. Quality Billiards and Billiards Direct definitely offer savings to our members. Make sure you have your card with you when you stop by.
Dave Whitsell of Quality Billiards, and the long time supplier of cues, repair and accessories at our San Diego APA tournaments, is selling the business. We wish to thank him for all of his years of service to our league members. My personal playing cue is one of Dave’s creations, and I still love that cue several years later. If anyone is interested in this business, please contact Dave at 619-463-9999.
The new MVP program is now posting to our web site. In both 8 Ball and 9 Ball, the calculation is now the percentage of points earned that were available in the matches that you play. A lengthier explanation can be found in the “Latest News” section on the home page of our web site.
This coming weekend (June 7-8) is the 8 Ball City Championships. We will be available all weekend long at the Hungry Stick to distribute MVP trophies and patches for the Spring Session. We also have 2013 Summer and Fall MVP trophies in case yours didn’t get picked up yet.
There is an actual section on the score sheets for marking 8 on the break and break and runs and 9 on the snap and break and runs. This needs to be filled in for tracking purposes. You do not need to write it in the message center. If you want your player to have credit for one of these patches, the designated box on the score sheet needs to be filled in. We sometimes get players showing up to pick up their patch and we don’t show them earning one because the team didn’t mark the appropriate box. If you hover over Awards and Milestones on the home page of our web site, you can see Break and Break and Run lists. We usually update that page on Wednesdays. When you go to that link, you can see when the report was last updated in the upper right hand corner.
The new APA team manuals have arrived and we will be hosting Captains Meetings later this month. Please watch for a flyer next week announcing the dates, times and locations of our meetings.
Besides the five 8 Ball teams, four 9 Ball teams, two Ladies teams and 2 Masters teams that will be attending the National Championships, we also have 1 Jack and Jill 8 Ball Scotch Doubles slot that we will blind draw from our San Diego APA members that sign up for the event. This event is a $100 entry fee, modified single elimination (guaranteed to play twice) tournament taking place at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, August 17-19. Players must be currently on an 8 Ball roster, have a minimum of 20 matches played in 8 Ball, and the handicap limit is 10 for each team. Maximum field size for this event is 256 teams. We will conduct the draw for this slot on Saturday, June 7th.
Ladies Divisions will be starting back up on June 25th and June 27th. Ladies teams can have up to 5 players on the roster with 3 playing in a match with the 3 point 8 Ball scoring system. Handicap limit for each team match is 13. Contact the league office to get more information on Ladies leagues. The ladies are having lots of fun with this new format. Come and join us!
