Captain’s Log, August 5th , 2012

This is the final week of the Summer Session (except for Ladies Only Divisions). Playoffs will begin next week. The amount of teams competing in the playoffs is determined by division size. See the San Diego APA bylaws for a breakdown on playoff structure. A copy of the entire SDAPA bylaws can be found on the web site, and the address is listed at the bottom of this newsletter. Playoff match ups will be posted to the schedule page and on a separate link on the web site on the nights listed below. Timely return of score sheets is crucial in this final week for accuracy of the division standings for playoff positions and the draw. Past due teams are not eligible for the wild card draw!

Sunday and Monday divisions: Thursday, August 9th

Tuesday divisions: Friday, August 10^th

Wednesday and Thursday divisions: Monday, August 13^th

There will be a week off between playoff weeks as we observe the APA National Team Championships in Las Vegas for the week of August 19-25. Week 2 of playoffs will continue on the week of August 26^th.  

Have you informed us of your intentions for the Fall Session yet? We are currently starting the process of putting together divisions and schedules for the Fall Session. If you have not registered your team yet, please do so as soon as possible! We need to know about teams that are not playing just as much as we need to know about teams that are playing.

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of two league members. Sonia Locke joined the San Diego APA in 2000 and played in nearly 350 matches all around the Cental San Diego area, and mostly in El Cajon. She was only 35 years old. She made many friends among our APA league members and all are very sad to see her go. We also lost Margaret “Missy” Moses, who only recently joined the San Diego APA in January. She was playing with the Pooligans out of Molly Malones in Ramona. She was only 40. L Our sincerest condolences to everyone that knew them. 

The league office will be closed on the week of August 19-25. We will be at the APA National Team Championships at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. For anyone who has never been there and has some free time to kill, I highly suggest making a trip to Las Vegas and checking out this event. There is bleacher seating for those who wish to come out and support the San Diego APA teams attending the APA National Team Championships. APA Nationals takes place from August 16^th  to August 25^th.
