Captain’s Log, January 2nd 2012

Happy New Year to all of you! May your new year be prosperous and improve your pool game tremendously. Mostly, we wish you good health. 2011 saw some great friends of the APA pass, and they will be missed. The one we didn’t get published in a newsletter before the session ended was Dave Ellison. Dave played APA in Ramona on the team “No Drama”. He was 71 years old. Our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

Members can now pay their memberships online. You can still mail it in with your score sheets as usual, and you do still have a 4 week grace period from the start of the session to get your fees paid up. It’s recommended you send it in sooner rather than later, as we always end up taking people off rosters after that 4th week because the envelope was late or someone forgot it was the last week to pay, etc…The amount owed for membership fees will show up next to your name on the score sheet. Players that joined after August 15th of the previous year get a $15.00 prorated membership fee which is good for the entire year. Score sheets are processed to mail out several days before your league match, so if you only recently paid an online membership and it shows that you still owe, it’s likely due to the way the paperwork flows through the office rather than a mistake. If it still says you owe the following week, give us a call.

City Championship qualified teams are not allowed to make roster changes of any kind after the 4th week of play. That includes teams that become qualified at the Fall Blast scheduled at the end of this month.

Prize money checks will be going out to the teams in their team envelopes the week before the Blast. Teams that re-qualified and do not participate in the Blast will need to come by the Blast tournament to pick up their checks and trophies. If you want the check made out to someone other than the captain of the team, contact the league office as soon as possible.

Teams that won the division standings are allowed to receive a host location sponsor plaque, but you must contact the league office if you want one. We only have them made up for the teams that request them. The trophy order has already been sent in, so contact us as soon as possible to get the sponsor plaque added.

The 8 Ball Southwest Challenge tournament is scheduled for March 23-25. We are already taking sign ups. We will be sending out a flyer in next week’s packets.

If you are scheduled for a bye in the first few weeks, it is highly recommended that you be prepared to play on short notice. Quite often, we find out late that a team is dropping or adding, which can significantly alter the schedule. It’s always easier to be ready to play on your regular league night than it is to have to make up the match later. With that said, schedules change quite frequently early in the session, so keep checking back to the schedules posted on the web site for possible changes. Our goal is to fill byes where we can and not turn away a team that wants to play, even if they are a bit late to the party.

We are taking sign ups now for the annual Bonnie and Clyde St. Valentine’s Day Massacre 8 Ball Doubles Shootout. This field is limited to the first 64 teams signed up and paid by the due date of February 4th. Handicap limit is 10, male/female teams, alternating shot and the entry fee is $30 per team. A flyer is on the web site.
