Captain’s Log, December 4th, 2011

This is the final week of the Fall Session. Teams that make the playoffs will be continuing on over the next two weeks and everyone else will get a break until the week of January 2nd, 2012.
The playoffs have always been one of my favorite things the APA created. No matter how poorly of a session someone has, they still have a wild card chance at the playoffs, and it’s pretty amazing how successful the worst of sessions can become when given that one opportunity to shine in the playoffs. The wild card is a blind draw of every team in the division that didn’t make the playoffs automatically, provided those teams did not have more than 5 individual no show forfeits and the team is caught up in fees. We wish everyone the best of luck in the playoffs and a safe and Happy Holidays!

We will be providing a playoff captain’s log next week with your playoff sheets. It will explain any thing that is different about playoffs in comparison to regular session. Below is a list of dates the playoff schedules will be posted to the web site:

Sunday and Monday Divisions- Thursday, December 8th

Tuesday Divisions- Friday, December 9th

Wednesday and Thursday Divisions- Monday, December 12th

Double check the playoff pages on the web site. We do not contact the teams individually. You can check the web site or, if you don’t have Internet, call us the day after these dates above to find out if your team made it or not. Divisions of 5 have a playoff for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a wild card. Divisions of 6 to 11 teams have a playoff for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a wild card and Divisions of 12 teams or more have a playoff for 2nd through 7th and two wild cards. We break ties using the
instructions in the team manual.

It’s extremely important that you get those score sheets returned to us as soon as possible so that your match can be counted and playoffs can be calculated for these dates. Timely submission of these sheets is also necessary to get the sheets back out to you on time for your matches.

We apologize about the Tuesday night score sheet screw up from last week. The reason this problem happens is the score sheets default to the next week after a match from the previous week gets scored. We printed these matches before any of them got scored due to the holiday, and then a mess ensues on our end attempting to fix the problem. We will always mail new sheets out once we notice our mistake, so the best thing to do in these situations is to wait for a new sheet to arrive or to watch for the update to the web site that will allow you to print the correct score sheet from there. Please check the website message board (see left menu) for info before calling the League Office during these extremely rare occurrences.

The APA National Team ChampionshipsIt’s been a really good year for the San Diego APA. We sent a record number of teams and players to the National Championships this year and we hope we can do that again in 2012. As always, we appreciate every one of you for your support of the SDAPA and the locations we play out of and for the love of the game of pool. Many of you have already taken advantage of renewing your membership online for 2012, and this is just a quick note to everyone else that APA now has this capability through your online experience. Membership renewal through the score sheets will begin right after the new year. PLEASE help us transition to the Spring Session by letting us know one way or the other whether your Fall Session team will be registering for the Spring Session or if you are putting together any new teams. It’s makes things better for everyone when schedule changes are kept to a minimum once the session starts. Thank You!

The Fall Session Blast will take place on the weekend of January 28-29, 2012.
